About the Author
Eliza F. Kent is an associate professor of religion at Colgate University. She is the author of Converting Women: Gender and Christianity in Colonial South India, which received the CHOICE Award for Outstanding Academic Title of 2004. Her articles have appeared in journals such as Worldviews and the Journal for the Study of Religion, Nature, and Culture. Tazim R. Kassam is an associate professor in the Department of Religion at Syracuse University. She is the author of Songs of Wisdom and Circles of Dance: Hymns of the Satpanth Ismaili Saint, Pir Shams and the co-editor of Ginans: Texts and Contexts. Essays on Ismaili Hymns from South Asia in Honor of Zawahir Moir.

About the Author

Timo Rissanen is the Assistant Professor of Fashion Design and Sustainability at Parsons School of Design, The New School, in New York. Research on sustainability in fashion is inseparable from his design practice. Timo's PhD focused on zero waste fashion design.
Holly McQuillan is Senior Lecturer in Design at the College of Creative Arts at Massey University, New Zealand. Her research centres in the field of zero waste fashion design practice-led research. Her research articulates zero waste fashion design through exhibition and writing, and focuses on broad issues of sustainability and their links with risky design practice.

Important, experimental approaches to Fashion design and production..for Everyone!

I learned about this text and the author from Alabama Chanin Journal in April 2016 and bought immediately.
The book is a excellent introduction to the concept of zero waste in fashion design and garment construction. In addition to many photographs, drawings and sketches of the author's and colleagues' patterns and garments, there are specific examples describing the experimental processes from pattern development through garment trials to final garment. The online references offered greatly enhance the book's value and allow the reader to delve into more details and even free, down-loadable patterns for some of the garments discussed in the book. While clearly intended for fashion design students, my only disappointment was that the author did not seek to connect his unique, experimental ideas for fashion design with clothing needs for the general public. This would be an important goal for Rissanen's future research and public outreach/education.

Don't try to use this book without checking out the website. There were a lot of things discovered after the book came out. Holly is brilliant and a great teacher. this is an important work for pattern makers.

Wonderfu pocket atlas

Beautiful illustrations and detailed pocket atlas, and easy to carry around. Not quite one you could carry around in your ordinary pocket but perfect for your coats. I use this as reference a lot in the office. Yes, I have a few of the others but I don't always need to see a big picture. Sometimes I just need a quick look or just need a little extra informaiton than just a label of the body part and this sure works fine for me. Many beautiful illustrations and information on anatomy.

I bought this to have as a quick convenient reference along with my other small books with me while doing my clinical clerkships. It's no gray's but definitely useful. There were a few things I tried to look up that were not labeled or mentioned in here but then again, it's no gray's.

Re-reading the history of capitalism and aesthetics with an awareness of the forces of sexual difference reveals not just their integral role in the development of capitalist markets, but a new understanding of our political-economic relations as humans.

The appearance of the energies of sexual difference is highlighted in a number of different historical periods and political economies, from the Rococo period of pre-revolutionary France, to the aesthetics and economics of Keynesian Bloomsbury, to our contemporary Postmodern sensibility. With these examples, Jenkins demonstrates that the very constitution of capitalist markets is affected by the interaction of these forces; and she argues that a conscious appreciation and negotiation of them is integral to an immanent, democratic understanding of power.

With its unique application of Jungian theory, this book provides important new insights into debates surrounding art, aesthetics, and identity politics, as well as into the quest for autonomous, democratic institutions of politics and economics. Self is one of the most talented British contemporary writers and enjoys this celebrity for good reason. He writes Grey Area in an overwhelmingly cryptic tone saturated with insight in both human nature and the nature of our own surroundings in a surreal world. His observations are scientific anthropological jewels, while his writing mechanics are those of an artist. Grey Area is a book I'd recommend to not only the fan of British literature, short story format, or imaginative writing, but to the most hard - nosed non - reader

Some formidable satire

'Grey area', Will Self's second collection of short stories follow in the same tradition as his first - 'The Quantity Theory of Insanity'. Self seems to conjour up bizarre conceits, then writes them out. Overall the quality of the stories is strong, if a little mixed. Most of the stories are set around London and the M40 corridor to Oxford, the motorway acting as a surreal form of creative lodestone which exerts its influence over the stories within.

My favourites were 'Chest' a satire set in a futuristic Oxfordshire where ingrained class distinctions stubbornly prevail even though a thick, toxic fog blankets the landscape so country squires have to breathe through oxygen masks while they shoot pheasants; 'Scale' which riffs through all the myriad definitions of 'scale' in the dictionary through the eyes of a motorway worshipping morphine addict who dwells in Beaconsfield model village (hard to see how this one could translate into other languages) and 'The End of the Relationship', about a girl who is dumped by her boyfriend and subsequently finds that everyone she encounters that day is also suffering from a breakup.

"Grey Area" is more impressive in scope and scabs than in realization. The linguistic sciolism (vituperative of me to say), the skittery plotlines, the curvy roads, the meaty chunks, flesh against my teeth, yes yes, miasma well-placed, and fluid-filled lungs remind me; "Inclusion" includes a tying of loose ends, and "The End of the Relationship" so entirely different - its (seeming) placidity rents it from the guttural slavering and pedestrian contempts of the rest. The cruelty here is even more pronounced due to its nuance and understated enunciation. There are throughout brilliant moments, but the stories often left me feeling circumspect - as though i had witnessed and was almost taken in by some elaborate legerdemain. There is an air of flippancy that detracts from the disturbing characterizations and dim, dystopian landscapes. The chthonic sturm und drang unravels a heavy damp sweater only to leave us with a string between forefinger and thumb. And still, worth the read: for the intestinal aspirations, for the restive mind at work.

Este libro no pretende criticar, ni hacer a un lado a las personas con tendencias homosexuales, todo lo contrario pretende atraerlas y dar una explicaci�n racional y cient�fica del por qu� son as�. De los mejores libros que he le�do sobre el tema. Tambi�n recomiendo "Homosexualidad y esperanza" de editorial EUNSA

La homosexualidad es una herida
�Es una enfermedad la homosexualidad? Por mucho que moleste a algunos, una condici�n se juzga como buena o mala (no moralmente, sino desde el punto de vista de la salud psicol�gica) seg�n la misma naturaleza humana. Es decir, si analizamos las causas del efecto (en este caso la condici�n homosexual) podemos ver precisamente que es un d�ficit psicol�gico durante el desarrollo. Es como la desnutrici�n, no es una enfermedad, pero es una condici�n nociva. La homosexualidad analizada desde sus causas nos muestra que es una inmadurez de la personalidad, un conflicto no resuelto. Hay que aclarar que eso no toca ni la dignidad ni el valor de la persona. Ser homosexual no es una culpa, ni una perversi�n... ni nada de que espantarse o juzgar, es involuntario. Todos tenemos diferentes tipos de conflictos no resueltos a nivel psicol�gico. Somo seres tan vulnerables e imperfectos que esto no puede evitarse. Y hay que aceptarlo.

Pero una causa negativa, un deficit (se juzga d�ficit desde la perspectiva de una necesidad psicol�gica natural no fue satisfecha y ello causa un efecto nocivo) no puede producir un efecto positivo, en el contexto que estamos hablando.

El que muchos gays no quieren aceptar que su condici�n homosexual es una deficiencia se debe, en mi opini�n, a una cuesti�n ideol�gica que tiene un principio positivo: defender la dignidad y los derechos de ser persona. Pero que luego se exagera y se niega la realidad por una causa psicol�gica subyacente. Esta causa es la de sentirse poco valiosos. Nadie quiere experimentar eso, y si a alguien se le ha hecho creer que vale menos por ser gay, es l�gico que se defiendan como fieras. Sin embargo es un obvio error de la sociedad hacer ese tipo de aseveraciones impl�citas.

La humildad como virtud espiritual que permite aceptar la realidad y los propios defectos sin devaluar su propio valor como persona, por aceptar con tranquilidad de propia imperfecci�n y los limites existenciales, permitir�a asumir la realidad de la condici�n homosexual, esta es la de ser una herida. Y cualquiera es libre de querer mantener su herida o curarla.
